Today's movies mark India Independence Day, the birthday of Alfred Hitchcock, and the Little League World Series.
The Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935) is
about the British Empire in India and
especially about several British soldiers on
the frontier in India. Yesterday, August 15
(1947) was India Independence Day and this
is our second India movie to mark that day. This
is a critically acclaimed movie.

North by Northwest (1959) is a classic
Hitchcock movie about a New
York City advertising executive mistakenly
pursued as a spy. This thrilling movie features
iconic scenes at Mt. Rushmore and with a crop
duster. It is on the National Film Registry. This
mystery movie continues our series of Alfred
Hitchcock films; he was born August 13, 1899.
North by Northwest
The Bad News Bears (1976) is a family
film about a Little League baseball team; it
combines comedy and drama. It was followed
by The Bad News Bears In Breaking Training (1977)
and The Bad News Bears Go To Japan (1978). The
Little League World Series starts today, August
16, 2018, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
