Movies for the Day, Saturday, October 21, 2017

Today's movies mark an anniversary of the USS Constitution, the birthday of author Ursula K. LeGuin, and National Reptile Awareness Day.






Old Ironsides (1926) is a silent movie
about the battle between the American
merchant marine and early 19th century
Mediterranean pirates.  The USS
Constitition, also known as Old
Ironsides, was launched October 21, 1797,
partly to stop such piracy.

The Lathe of Heaven (1980) is
a science fiction movie about a person
who has the ability to change reality
while dreaming.  The movie is based
on the book of the same name by
acclaimed science fiction writer Ursula
K. LeGuin, born October 21, 1929.

Lake Placid (1999) is about a huge
crocodile in a Maine lake.  Today
is National Reptile Awareness Day.
