Today's movies mark the birthdays of actress Helen Hayes and of composer Giuseppe Verdi, and World Mental Health Day.

Airport (1970) is a blockbuster disaster film
with an all-star cast, especially Helen Hayes who
won an Oscar as Supporting Actress.  Hayes was born
October 10, 1900.  The movie has several sequels,
including Airport 1975, Airport '77, and Airport
'79.

La Traviata (1982) is a superb
rendition of the famous opera by
Giuseppe Verdi, born October 10,
1813.  The opera, in turn, was based
on the novel by Alexandre Dumas,
Camille.

Birdy (1984) portrays a mentally unstable
Vietnam War veteran who becomes
obsessed with being a bird.  Today is
World Mental Health Day.  The movie
takes place in Philadelphia.
